The Bachelor of Science with a major in Microbiology is designed to provide the necessary academic, technical knowledge, and skills for entry and success in health related industries and industries or agencies that maintain environmental health and monitoring programs.

This multidisciplinary program, with a foundation in proficient communication skills and a broad based liberal arts education, requires significant course work in biology, chemistry, and microbiology. Students are encouraged to take advantage of appropriate co-op experiences available in Houston.

Graduates of the program will have the necessary education and skills for immediate employment in the Houston area or to pursue graduate-level studies in microbiology or related areas.

Minimum GPA of 2.0 in all science courses that could apply toward the degree.

 

The only transfer credit courses with grades of D that apply toward a degree are first-year non-mathematics and non-science courses.

 

No more than three credit hours with a grade of D in upper-level science courses may be applied toward the degree.

 

Students must have at least 18 credit hours of upper-level science from UH-Downtown with a minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply toward the degree.

 

Credit for science courses that are more than 10 years old must be approved by the department before they can be applied toward a degree.

 

Graduation Requirements: A minimum of 133 hours of university-level course work will be required.
