Do you think we will ever come up with a way to recycle computers? Options

Right now, there is no way to recycle computers and everyone is just throwing out their old computers. I am sure it is taking up a lot of space in our landfills.

It's amazing how far technology has come. Not only can we recycle computers now, but we can donate computers we no longer want. First, you can simply reuse your computer by upgrading parts of it. If that is unappealing to you, then as I have mentioned before, you can donate it. Should this suggestion be uncomforting, then a lot of PC manufacturers will accept and recycle used computers (sometimes reselling them as refurbished computers). IN terms of the environment, by sending your computer to a PC manufacturer, you are decreasing the amount of waste created because, again, they usally use these parts over.

We dont have one at this moment only plastic and bottle and what not but sooner we will have a facilities where to dispose those old ones. But here a idea why cant we use part of the old for other use that can be better off. Those old parts can maybe save the enivornment little by little also.

Well I heard that if you take your computer to good will or slavation army, they will reuse the hardware. Now I ususally used my hardware to its full capacity, so recycling my computer would not benefit anyone. I do agree that we need a place where they will remove the pieces...recycle good pieces and destroy the bad ones.

I don't think that recycling computers by taking them apart to separate the recyclable pieces from the non-recyclable pieces is a realistic solution. That would be way too time consuming. It would be very tedious and take so much man power that it wouldn't be worth the amount of recyclable materials that would be recovered (especially since computers are made of a lot of small, intricate parts). However, computers become obsolete very quickly, resulting in far too many old computers taking up space in our landfills. We do need to find a solution other than just throwing old computers out.

I think that the best way to recycle computers is to donate them, as several people have already mentioned. Giving them to Good Will or the Salvation Army are good options, but I think it would be even more beneficial to donate them to underfunded schools. As teachers, we know that school funding across the nation is far from equitable. Many students are at a disadvantage because their school doesn't have sufficient money to purchase enough computers for the students to use for educational purposes. They certainly can't affort the newest models, so many schools would appreciate an older computer.
